Basic is the ideal choice if you’re one step away from turning in your work, publishing, and putting it out there for the world to read. Think of our Basic service as proofreading. We’ll comb through your document and correct mistakes and typos that may have slipped through. Mistakes like these can include missing page numbers, incorrect line/word spacing, double punctuation marks, and inconsistencies with margins and fonts. Typically, the Basic service is recommended when a document is in its final stages and needs polishing.

• Have you already gotten feedback for your content and made the necessary changes?

• Has your document been edited for grammar, spelling, and syntax errors?

• Do you feel like you need that last run-through to make sure everything is clean and polished?

Basic Rate: $0.017 per word

If there are more grammatical and stylistic errors, we’ll often recommend the Heavy service. Think of Heavy as copyediting. We’ll look for clarity, tone, and language use appropriate for your intended audience. Typical changes may include cutting clutter, improving sentence complexity, and correcting errors like subject/verb agreement and run-on sentences, for example. Heavy is recommended when a document is fully developed but needs corrections to help with readability.

• Have you already gotten feedback for your content and made the necessary changes?

• Is your subject matter free of inconsistencies and contradictions?

• Do you feel like your main issues are wordiness, lack of flow, and/or grammar/punctuation problems?

Heavy Rate: $0.035 per word

Copyediting can become substantive editing when changes to structure are necessary. Think of Substantive as reorganizing and rewriting. We’ll help make changes to the content itself after critical analysis and continuous communication with the writer. This service involves possibly rewriting short sections or the entire piece and making modifications to organization, structure, consistency, language, and logic. Documents that need Substantive editing may still be in the developmental stage and need revision, so we’ll look at the writing as a whole and uncover any weaknesses or unclear positions.

• Do you need feedback for your content?

• Are you looking for an analysis of your document to ensure focus and accuracy?

• Do you feel like your main issues involve rhetoric and coherence?

Substantive Rate: $0.05 per word

Translating requires a deep understanding of subtleties, context, and culture in both languages. There are several things to consider, including target audience and document complexity, to successfully complete a translation that adapts to a specific region and is true to the original text. A Basic Spanish-to-English or English-to-Spanish translation includes proofreading in the target language (the language into which a text is translated).

Basic Translation is the ideal choice for articles, product descriptions, and documents that need neither content changes nor corrections to grammar and mechanics. If the writer wants to improve sentence complexity and overall readability, Heavy editing can be applied to the translation. On the other hand, if a document needs to be revised, reorganized, and/or rewritten, we’ll communicate closely with the writer to ensure the target text fulfills all requirements.
